What is Argan Oil?

Argan oil is natural oil extracted from the seeds of the fruits that grow on the Argan tree (Argania spinosa).

Argan trees grow mainly in southwest Morocco.

Argan oil is extremely rich in proteins, antioxidants and healthy nutrients such as fatty acids (Omega 3 and Omega 9), squalene, sterols, carotenes, polyphenols, phenol and vitamin E.

Argan oil is also one of the most unique oils in the world and is often also referred to as "Moroccan Gold" or "Liquid Gold".

How Argan Oil is made

Harvest

There are two traditional methods to collect argan nuts sometimes also called argan fruit:

  1. The women collect the argan nuts after they fall off the tree in late July or early August. And in some cases they use stones to throw the rest of the trees.
  2. The women collect the argan nuts after the goats eat the fruit around the nuts and then spit out nuts.

Don't worry because everything is hygienic and safe prepared because the argan nuts will be carefully cleaned before being processed.

And it can take up to two days to remove all the pulp and scales.

  1. First, the nuts will be dried for a while in open air in order to easily and quickly remove the fleshy pulp of the nut. Or the fleshy pulp will be removed mechanically in order to accelerate the process.
  2. The dried pulp and shells of the nuts will be removed with the help of two stones.
  3. The nuts will be pressed untill there's a brown paste left.
  4. The brown paste will be pressed in order to get the oil out.
